Dawson's Creek
Programme Synopsis
Dawson and Joey are life-long friends and soul mates. This wholesome friendship, begins with years of Joey climbing through Dawson's bedroom window and grows increasingly complicated when the two mature. As their relationship swings between long time companions and love interests, their friendship is tested by Joey's relationship with Pacey, and Dawson's relationship with Jen.
Dawson Leery, first introduced as an aspiring filmmaker with a Spielberg fixation, grows in many ways over the years.
Joey, the ultimate girl-next-door, suffers a difficult childhood in which she lost her mother to cancer and faced her father's imprisonment. She is raised by her sister, a single mother, and like many of today's children, Joey was forced to grow-up far too quickly. Becoming an honorary member of Dawson's family early on leads to problems when the two become romantically involved.
Through great uncertainty, self-evaluation and self-doubt, these young adults alternately dance and trudge through their adolescence and deal with all that young adulthood has to offer, including the trials, tribulations and responsibilities of being on their own. In the end, the lessons they learn enable them to move forward, stronger and more confident than ever, and above all else, life-long friends.

The Kiss
After their first, wildly passionate kiss, Dawson and Joey fall prey to the all-too-normal insecurities and uncertainties that accompany the death of a platonic relationship and the birth of a romance. On top of it all, Joey needs to make an immediate decision on whether to not to go to France, and a grief-stricken Jen keeps looking to Dawson for support in the wake of her grandfather's death. It all seems as if the deck is stacked against the new couple. Meanwhile, Pacey meets new girl in town, Andie McPhee, who gives the wiseacre a taste of his own medicine after he masquerades as a police officer. And, Mitch visits a divorce lawyer without telling Gale, who blindly believes that they're headed for a complete reconciliation.
Crossroads
Pacey fails his driver's license test on his birthday, and Dawson is so absorbed with his new relationship with Joey that he overlooks Pacey's special milestone entirely. Hurt and feeling like he's being phased out, Pacey throws a huge bash in an effort to expand his horizons. While innocently snooping around Joey's room, Dawson reads some disparaging remarks in her diary that make him question how well he knows his lifelong friend. The budding Dawon-Joey romance affects Jen too, whose loneliness causes her to befriend the group's adversary, Abby Morgan. With boys and booze forever on her mind, Abby proves to be a bad influence on Jen. Meanwhile, Mitch suggests that he and Gale try an "open" marriage as a means to save it.
Alternative Lifestyles
When Jen and Dawson get paired up in an Econ class as a pretend couple who must come up with a "family budget," Abby convinces Jen to seize this opportunity to seduce Dawson, while Pacey's pairing with Andie brings them closer and reveals the truth about Andie's family. Meanwhile, Mitch rides Dawson about the new sexual nature of his relationship with Joey, and announces to Gayle that he has decided that an open marriage would be the best thing. And, Joey begins to see a whole new world of possibility and empowerment when she does research for her Econ project with an unmarried businesswoman.
Tamara's Return
Joey's newfound passion for art drives a wedge between she and Dawson. She's nervous about taking her focus off of Dawson to concentrate on herself, and Dawson can't seem to recognize how important this budding interest is to her. While continuing to develop his flirtation with Andie McPhee, Pacey unexpectedly bumps into Tamara and realizes that he is far from over her. And when Jen and Abby meet a handsome stranger who shows more interest in Jen than Abby, Abby drops her new best friend instantly.
Full Moon Rising
The full moon puts everything in a twist and nothing goes according to plan. Joey has a healthy respect for the havoc that can be wreaked by this monthly event, while Dawson maintains his usual romanticism on the subject. That is, until he is forced into joining the sinking ship of his mother's dinner party, at which his father Mitch infuriates Gale by showing up very late - and with Tamara in tow as a surprise guest. Romance goes awry on several other fronts as well, as Jen hooks up once again with hunky dock worker Vincent, despite Abby's jealousy. Determined to seduce this older guy, Jen realizes she's made a mistake when the situation turns ugly. And, Pacey and Andie finally agree to go out on a date but as fate would have it, they just can't seem to find each other in the right place at the right time. Meanwhile, Jack and Joey battle a strange power outage in the restaurant (which leads to a forbidden kiss) but are aided by a strange lone customer.
The Dance
School-spirited Andie somehow convinces her apathetic buddies to attend a Capeside High School dance, where each romantic entanglement is tested. Hoping the dance will help him forget about his parents' decision to separate, Dawson arrives in time to overhear Jack and Joey arguing about the kiss they shared a few days before. Meanwhile, Pacey maintains to Andie that he's not a dancer, but is later caught swaying in the arms of a beautiful upperclassmen.
The All-Nighter
A panic-inducing English Lit mid-term compels Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Andie, Jen and Chris Wolfe to mount a desperate, last-ditch study effort - the rite-of-passage all-nighter. At Chris' house, the group members settle in to study, procrastinate and come to terms with their individual dramas. Dawson puts Joey through the paces, creating a post-break-up hell in which he gives her the silent treatment, insults her and says a lot that he doesn't mean. Andie finds out about Pacey's affair with Tamara during a Cosmo magazine purity test, and Jen gives in to temptation courtesy of lady-killer Chris.
The Reluctant Hero
Elated about winning the junior division of the Boston Film Festival, Dawson wants to share the triumph and prize money with Joey, whose less-than-enthusiastic response dampens his jubilant mood. As she pulls away from Dawson, Jack edges a little closer and asks her out on a date. Seeking solace, Pacey's guidance counselor paints a bleak picture of his future. Andie helps him buckle down, but she too needs to be saved, when her mother loses her composure in a public place.
The Election
Andie persuades Joey to be her running mate in the student body election, pitting them against the popular ticket of Abby and Chris Wolfe. Andie, Joey and Pacey anticipate that Abby's smear campaign will dredge up Joey's spotty family history, but are completely unprepared when Abby turns the spotlight on the McPhees. Meanwhile, Jen pressures Dawson to live a little so that he can use his real-life experiences to write a stronger script. Only when he witnesses his parents' feeble attempt at reconciliation and their subsequent decision to divorce, does Dawson give in to Jen's advice.
High Risk Behaviour
It seems that love - or at least lust - is in the air in the usually sleepy town of Capeside. During much analysis of his autobiographical movie script, Dawson and Jen ponder their past romance and current friendship. Their frank discussions lead to Dawson's realization that romance, love, lust and passion are sometimes hard to separate. Meanwhile, Pacey and Andie move forward with planning Andie's ultimate fantasy scenario for losing her virginity. And, Joey agrees to let Jack pose nude for a sketch, which serves to heighten the mounting tension between them.
Sex, She Wrote
When the meddlesome Abby discovers a crumpled but heartfelt note, written by someone who has just had sex, to their "partner in crime," she decides that figuring out who these two are is perfect fodder for her English class report on the mystery genre. Abby particularly relishes the fact that all of her "suspects" will be subject to public humiliation once she presents her findings in class - one they all attend. After some investigation, Abby decides to solve her mystery a la Hercule Poirot, and sends mysterious invitations to a late-night meeting in the English classroom to all suspects. When Joey, Jack, Dawson, Jen, Pacey and Andie arrive, they realize that they've been trapped. Tension builds as they all squirm, and embarrassing revelations and accusations fly, but the end result is a big surprise to all.
Uncharted Waters
On a weekend fishing trip, Pacey is once again at odds with his hard-to-please father, while believing that his shipmates, Mitch and Dawson, have the perfect father-son relationship. But Dawson's dealing with problems with his own dad, blaming Mitch for his parents' divorce and for not being able to keep a steady job. And Jack, whom Andie talked Pacey into including on the male-bonding weekend, is a total fifth wheel, since his dad is nowhere in sight. Meanwhile, inviting Jen, Joey, Andie and Abby over to film a news piece on teenage girls, Gale initiates a female-bonding session in which Jen and Joey come to terms with their precarious friendship, and the usually-mild-mannered Andie locks horns with Abby.
His Leading Lady
Using the prize money from the Boston Film Festival, Dawson is ready to begin filming his second movie, and everyone in Capeside is involved. Despite Dawson's effort to deny it, he finally concedes that the highly autobiographical film is his way of hanging on to Joey, who is fighting emotions of her own. Andie decides she no longer has time for a relationship - but Pacey won't go away that easily. And, while shooting Dawson's film, Jen meets a cute guy named Ty, who takes her to a party - a bible study!
To Be Or Not To Be...
When Pacey and Jack get caught talking in Mr. Peterson's English class, Jack is forced to recite his very personal poetry assignment, intended for Mr. Peterson's eyes only. While reading, Jack is overcome by emotion and flees from the room, and the school is quickly abuzz about the incident - not only did Jack cry in class, but the missive was about a man. New friendships and relationships are put to the test as everyone at Capeside High asks the same question - is Jack McPhee gay? Sticking up for Jack, hotheaded Pacey spits in the English teacher's face and faces suspension just as his grades are improving. Andie completely avoids her brother, and Joey stands by her man as best she can in the face of such scrutiny.
...That Is The Question
Despite his attempts at levity, Jack is having trouble coping with the rumors at Capeside High School that he's gay. In a moment of anger with his absentee father, Jack blurts out his true feelings, that despite his efforts to the contrary, he is gay, and is left with the consequences of what he says. When Pacey returns to school from his suspension, he continues to battle Mr. Peterson - this time, over the new, seemingly unfair gradingsystem. Pacey makes his argument to the School Board, inadvertently prompting Mr. Peterson to take an early retirement, forcing Pacey to doubt his actions. Meanwhile, Jen questions her relationship with Ty when they have a heated discussion about homosexuality.
Be Careful What You Wish For
Dawson's sixteenth birthday sparks some unsettling self-reflection -- he's no more grown up than a year ago, and the only part of his life that is clear to him is his feelings for Joey. Crushed that she still wants to be alone, Dawson becomes determined to have a little fun on his miserable birthday. Andie joins Dawson's mission, after her therapist prescribes a night of imperfection, and to Pacey's horror, the two goody-goodies show up drunk at Dawson's surprise party, where the guest of honor unleashes all of his bitterness at his loved ones. Meanwhile, Joey is speechless after catching a confused Jack kissing Abby, and Jen is stung when Ty wrongly assumes that, given her reputation, she's trying to seduce him.
Psychic Friends
After being told by a fortuneteller at the Capeside Winter Arts Fair that a tall and dark man will enter her life, Joey meets an artistic stranger named Colin, who asks if she'll pose for him. Just when Joey thinks Colin will kiss her, he expresses interest in someone else (he asks if Jack is available!) In the end, the soothsayer hits her mark, as someone tall and dark from Joey's past makes an unexpected visit. Meanwhile, when Dawson's new film teacher, who has Hollywood experience, tears his movie to shreds, he considers abandoning his lifelong dream to be a filmmaker. And, Jen helps Grams realize that she still has a life to live when a former high school classmate asks her to dinner.
A Perfect Wedding
Biting off more than they can chew, the Potters take a job catering a wedding, and Joey enlists her buddies to help out. While trying to keep the dinner on time, Joey is preoccupied and conflicted about her father's return to Capeside. Dawson and Jack both console her, but it's with Dawson that she shares a passionate kiss. Meanwhile, feeling alone, Jen patches things up with Abby, hoping to stir up some fun. The two rebels crash the wedding reception, steal a bottle of champagne and head to the docks, where their drunken night comes to a terrifyingly sober and tragic end. And, Gale is determined to win back Mitch, who shows up at the wedding with another woman.
Abby Morgan, Rest In Peace
Just as Abby Morgan would have wanted, Capeside is reeling from her unexpected death. Disgusted by the hypocrisy of everyone's false grief, Jen tries to cope with her survivor's guilt and the loss of her friend. Unfairly blaming Andie for Abby's demise and mocking her Grams' faith in God, Jen lashes out at those who try to console her. Meanwhile, Abby's mother asks Andie to give a eulogy at the funeral, not knowing the two girls were sworn enemies. Dawson and Joey try to forget their passionate kiss. And, Gale is offered a high-profile network news job in Philadelphia.
Reunited
Stirred up by the trauma of Abby's death, Andie's repressed grief over her lost brother brings her dangerously close to the breaking point. Concerned, Pacey and Jack are torn about the best way to handle her escalating breakdowns, especially after Andie admits to having conversations with her dead brother. Meanwhile, a farcical situation ensues when the romantic evening that Mitch plans for his new girlfriend is interrupted by Dawson and Joey, celebrating their one month anniversary, and by Gale and Jen, out to drown their sorrows at Capeside's hottest French bistro. Trying to set things right between the Leerys, the kids cook up a scheme to reunite Gale and Mitch on the dance floor.
Ch...ch...ch...changes
Desperate to help his sister, Jack calls on their absentee father, who decides that Andie and her mother need to be under constant medical supervision. Pacey vows to fight to keep Andie in Capeside, fearful of what being shipped away will do to her and equally afraid of being left behind without her. Looking for a subject for a film project, Dawson zeros in on Mr. Potter as a person who has heroically changed, and regrettably discovers something that could destroy Joey. And, Jen contemplates setting off on her own, feeling totally alone without a home or a family to turn to.
Parental Discretion Advised
After Dawson confronts Joey with the knowledge that her father is trafficking drugs again, Joey is determined to handle the situation by herself. However, Sheriff Witter's growing suspicion and near-fatal event force Joey to come to terms with the painful truth threatening to destroy her reunited family. Forced to take action, her next move promises to forever change her relationship with both her father and Dawson. Meanwhile, desperately missing Andie, Pacey blows his finals and has a heartbreaking confrontation with his father. And, Gale makes a surprising final decision about the job offer in Philadelphia.
