Jane Eyre
Programme Synopsis
With equal parts style, substance and heaving bodices, the classic saga of Jane Eyre is brought to life in this lavishly stylised adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s much-loved novel. The drama serial received heaps of plaudits when it was broadcast back in 2006. The Sunday Times called it “ a stylish production,” while The Independent said female viewers may well go “weak at the knees” at the first sight of Mr Rochester! (Toby Stephens).
The drama itself revolves around orphan Jane Eyre. After a wretched childhood she accepts a position as governess at Thornfield Hall. She soon falls in love with the brooding owner, Mr Rochester. Jane gradually wins his heart but, before they can find happiness as man and wife, they must first overcome the dark secrets of his past.
